ACTS
About ACTS
The ACtive Travel to School (ACTS) project aims to promote active travel to school through bicycle use among students aged 11 to 15 throughout Europe. In order to achieve this aim, a school-based bicycle intervention program will be developed, implemented and evaluated among students. To inform the intervention program a concept mapping study will be performed among adolescents, parents and teachers, to identify barriers and facilitators for the target group regarding engagement in active travel to school. The design of the six-month intervention will be theory driven and will include a bikepool with 15 bicycles for each school, education of teachers, students and parents regarding road and bicycle safety, and a collaboration between project partners, local schools and local bicycle stores. The results of the ACTS project will be shared via online and other media, and the methods will be promoted and supported in local schools.
The project is a collaboration between various European universities. The ACTS project is funded by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and the ERASMUS+ Sport Programme.
COVID-19 update: Due to COVID-19 measures, it was not possible to implement and evaluate an intervention program. As an alternative, based on the results of the concept mapping study, an intervention program will be co-created with students.
