Interaction

About Interaction

Did you know that many children in asylum seekers' centers (AZCs) have mental health issues? Children in AZCs suffer more from post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts than Dutch children. According to children's rights, all children have the right to a healthy childhood. Sports can help with this.

This is why Save the Children, War Child, and UNICEF created the TeamUp program. TeamUp is a sports and play program for children in asylum seekers' centers. It helps them feel better.

Many young children enjoy participating in TeamUp, but young people between the ages of 14 and 18 are less likely to participate. They prefer activities outside the asylum seekers' center and want to be more involved with Dutch society. That's why Save the Children wants these young people to be able to participate in sports at Dutch sports clubs.

But what makes it easy or difficult for these young people to participate in a sports club? And how can we improve sports club participation? The Interaction project seeks answers to these questions.
