Meredith Overman
Medical Anthropologist and Sociologist

After my bachelors in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology I completed the master Medical Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Amsterdam. During this master I specialized in cultural perceptions, stigma and awareness surrounding health, healthcare and illness. During and after my studies I worked as a museum educator at the Photography Museum in Amsterdam focusing on various projects where photography was used as a medium to facilitate conversation and reflection around a wide range of societal topics. Additionally, I worked as a research assistant at several projects within the field of health promotion. From September 2017 on, I am working as a PhD candidate within the LIKE project. With this project we aim to develop a sustainable approach in co-creation with children, parents and the neighborhood to promote healthy behavior in Amsterdam East. Next to my work as a PhD candidate, I am active as a volunteer within the IMC Weekendschool and Dokters van de Wereld.
